Since its opening in 1976, the City and Industrial Museum has presented the history of industrialization in various dimensions, with a focus on people. As a symbol of the creative human spirit and an introduction to the world of craftsmanship, visitors first encounter the blacksmith at the anvil upon entering the exhibition. His work is immediately brought to life at the entrance through a shadow play. At the other end of the room, this staging finds its counterpart in a shadow film depicting three workers on an assembly line (both projections installed by inSynergie). Between artisanal production and industrial mass manufacturing on the assembly line, two paths lead into the 20th century, as the world gradually transforms.
At numerous interactive stations, visitors can get hands-on and test their knowledge and skills. Rare films and new film productions complement the exhibition.
