Ghost Train at Heumarkt - Cologne 2013

Since December 2013, an eerie and somewhat bizarre scene has been unfolding every evening on the platform of the new Heumarkt subway station, causing irritation among passengers.

Since December 2013, an eerie and somewhat bizarre scene has been unfolding every evening on the platform of the new Heumarkt subway station, causing irritation among passengers. On the display board, a special service is always shown between 8 PM and midnight. However, the announced train will never arrive, even though those waiting can clearly hear the train speeding through the station without stopping. This is intended to create the impression of a ghost train traveling through Cologne's subway network. This is made possible by a total of 28 loudspeakers installed along the platform and into the tunnels. They are activated once a day in the evening hours by a random generator. An important prerequisite for this, for safety reasons, is that no real train may be at the track at the same time.
