The Danube Swabian Central Museum (DZM) in Ulm showcases the eventful history of the Danube Swabians from the late 17th century to the present day, across 26 sections and 1,500 m² of exhibition space. The culture and daily life of this German minority in multi-ethnic settlement areas, as well as the flight and expulsion of the ethnic German population from that region during World War II, their new beginnings in Western countries, and life under communist dictatorships, are all traced and scientifically presented in the permanent and special exhibitions.
The permanent exhibition “Danube. River Stories” takes you on a journey of discovery along the long, unknown river. Twenty-two river stories create a panorama of past and present, nature and society, politics and economy.
Across 550 m², objects, images, films, and sounds, presented in German and English, tell stories of remarkable people and animals, of journeys on the water, and of the cultural diversity along this unique river.
