The DASA in Dortmund-Dorsfeld is Germany's largest exhibition on the world of work. Covering an area the size of one and a half football fields, visitors can explore and experience various workplaces in an exciting way.
From February 2016, DASA visitors can experience how air traffic controllers work at an airport: granting takeoff clearance, approving landings, and controlling airspace. The new tower simulator has been linked to the existing flight simulator of an Airbus A320, making it unique in Europe.
For this purpose, an octagonal tower, 4.30 meters high with a floor area of approximately 8 by 8 meters, was built based on the Dortmund model – including its technical interior. inSynergie installed a 180° screen with five projectors, which displays the Dortmund airfield and those of other airports.
Inside the tower, three workstations with air traffic control radar are available. Visitors can try out five different air traffic controller scenarios via a touch screen.
The tower stands on its three-tiered platform half a meter above the ground, so that visitors truly feel like they are in a real tower.
