The "Centre Charlemagne" is located on the Katschhof, the former inner courtyard of the palace between the Cathedral and the Town Hall. A museum exhibition traces the history of Charlemagne and the development of his city. The Centre also serves as the starting point for exploring the other stations of the "Route Charlemagne."

The exhibition combines historical and artistic exhibits with multimedia presentations. Those who wish to engage with a topic experimentally have the opportunity to do so in history labs. Temporary exhibitions expand and complete the range of topics.
