iSRFID

Module for RFID communication

Short description

The RFID allows the usage and control of RFID in your projects.

With this module single objects (entrance tickets, exhibits, etc.) can be identified so that reactions can be triggered individually. This technology offers many opportunities.

Components:

1. Reading devices:
Detection and identification of the transponderst hat are integrated in visitor’s tickets or other objects.

2. PoE-Switch:
The connection of several reading devices works via a switch. Via Cat5 cables the data is transmitted to the iSMaster.

3. iSMaster:
Here the data is managed. The iSRFID module is installed and allows the communication with the reading devices. The ID of a transponder is recognized and respectively a reaction is triggered.

The RFID technology

The Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology is nowadays applied in more and more systems and sectors. This technical system offers the possibility to read and save data via radio frequency identification without the need of physical or visual contact.

A RFID system infrastructure consists of a transponder, a transceiver as well as an IT system. The transponder, a diminutive computer chip with an antenna is fixed onto an object, for example an adhesive label or a plastic card, and contains usually a numeric code that points to information stored in a database. Thus, every object being equipped with a RFID transponder obtains a unique identity.

Now these objects can be identified as the reading device (iSRFID) transmits the combination of numbers to a database. The IT system decodes the code and links it to information that is stored in a database or the internet. The knowledge respectively the intelligence of the system therefore lies not in the transponder but in the databases.

Example of use 1: Individually tailored presentation for visitors

An example for the various application possibilities of RFID technology is the RFID system that inSynergie utilized in the German Steam Locomotive Museum in Neuenmarkt.
http://www.dampflokmuseum.de/
Here every visitor is supplied with an admission ticket with an integrated transponder.

Like this the visitor can be identified at the single information stations (without personal data and, of course, voluntary). The facts about exhibits can be matched to the state of knowledge of the visitor.

Therefore, in the German Steam Locomotive Museum the visitor can enter his state of knowledge and language before starting the tour. By lying the transponder on a RFID reader and selecting on a touch screen “German, English or French” and “Expert, Advanced or Beginner” these data is stored in the database.

When a visitor approaches an exhibit, he drags his transponder card over an integrated reader and receives information in his language and according to his state of knowledge.

After the visitor finished the tour and returned his ticket the set of data is deleted. So the transponder can be reused for the next visitor.

The possibilities of application that a RFID implementation with an inSynergie system offers are not exhausted with this. For example visitors can assign their e-Mail address to the transponder and like this optionally can be sent information about the seen exhibits.

Example of use 2: Application in haptic exhibits

Since an RFID system is very robust and transponders are available in all kinds of variations (e.g. as synthetic nails) it can be deployed in sectors where the physical graspable experience is the major focus.

For example RFID tags can be placed in movable exhibits. If a visitor places this object onto a reading device the presentation of respective information as audio or video contribution can be started.
